Sapele LGA Gives Guidelines To Okada, Keke Operators

Sapele Local Government Council in Delta State has issued operational guidelines for motorcycle riders (also known as okada) and tricycle riders (also called keke operators) within the area.

This was contained in a statement signed by Hon. Raymond Overah, Secretary Sapele LGA.

The statement said this was “in line with the ongoing efforts to maintain peace, order, and effective transportation management within Sapele Local Government Area.”

Adding: “The following directives are hereby issued and shall be strictly enforced.”

According to the said guidelines, the operation time for okada riders is now restricted to 6:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. daily. The council authority also said that “every rider must wear a reflective vest with a clearly written Area Code Number.”

Continuing, the council said any okada rider found wearing face masks while on duty shall be arrested immediately.

For keke operators, the operation time has been restricted to 6:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m. daily, just as the LGA said “no passenger shall enter any keke without a visible and valid VIO Number boldly displayed on the body.

The guidelines also said that “keke covers must be properly tied, especially during rainfall.”

“Any Okada or Keke Operator arrested for violating these directives shall be detained for seven (7) days,” the council boss said.

Overah also said that “any person caught stealing within the ATP premises shall be shot at sight,” stating that “this directive takes effect from thirty days from today.”

“All Okada and Keke operators, unions, and the general public are hereby advised to take note and comply accordingly,” the statement concluded.
