DSS Debunks Report Of Arrest Of Evangelist Over Alleged Nasarawa Attack Video

By Zagazola Makama

The Department of State Services (DSS) has dismissed a social media report claiming it arrested an evangelist for allegedly raising a false alarm about an attack by suspected herdsmen during a crusade in Agboda Village, Nasarawa State.

In a statement on Wednesday in Abuja, Favour Dozie, Deputy Director, Public Relations and Strategic Communications at the DSS National Headquarters, described the Facebook post as false, misleading and capable of inflaming public tension.

Dozie said the post, which alleged that the Service arrested Evangelist Ukpo Daniel for circulating a video on the purported attack, was “incorrect and appears intended to cast the Service in bad light.”

“For clarity, Evangelist Ukpo Daniel was never invited nor arrested by the DSS,” she said.

According to the statement, the evangelist’s spouse, Elizabeth, who authored the Facebook post, confirmed to the Service that she was with her husband at the Police Headquarters in Lafia at the time the claim was circulated.

The DSS expressed concern that such misrepresentations could distort national security narratives or disrupt ongoing operations.

The Service therefore urged members of the public to rely on verified information and official communication channels to guard against the spread of disinformation.
