DELSU SUG Unveils State-Of-The-Art Renovated Secretariat

The Delta State University (DELSU) Students’ Union Government (SUG), under the leadership of President Amb. Dr Onovughegor Augustine Hittler, on Saturday, 6 December 2025, officially commissioned its newly renovated and transformed secretariat, marking another landmark achievement for the 31st administration.

Once a neglected, overgrown structure plagued by power outages, and an uninviting atmosphere, the SUG secretariat had long been abandoned due to its dilapidated state and security concerns from the dissertation and overgrown bushes. Under Dr. Onovughegor’s administration, the building has undergone a comprehensive overhaul and now stands as one of the most impressive student union facilities amongst tertiary institutions in the state.

The refurbished secretariat boasts modern amenities including constant electricity, a standby generator, a newly installed borehole for reliable water supply, plaster-of-Paris (POP) ceilings, an air-conditioner, industrial standing fans, contemporary office furniture, conference table, visitors’ office chairs, gaming chairs, banquet chairs, and enhanced security lighting. The surrounding compound has been cleared, landscaped and adorned with the Nigerian, Delta State University and SUG flags.

A highlight of the project is the soon-to-be-commissioned SUG Digital Café, another student-centred initiative of the 31st administration that will offer heavily discounted printing and photocopying services to ease the financial burden on students for assignments, projects and research materials.

In a symbolic gesture, the secretariat has been renamed the “Prof. Asagba Ogheneovo Samuel SUG Secretariat.” in honour of the university’s 8th substantive Vice-Chancellor, who personally performed the commissioning. The colourful ceremony attracted a large gathering of past and present student leaders, senators, honourable members of the SUG parliament, judicial officers, cultural leaders, hall governors, association executives, members of the Kegites Club, NANS comrades, and students.

Dr. Onovughegor also paid tribute to previous administrations by installing framed portraits of SUG presidents from the 27th to the 31st administrations, preserving the union’s rich history and legacy for future generations.

The secretariat will serve not only as an administrative hub but also as a comfortable office space and venue for official meetings and comrades’ gatherings.

Students who attended the commissioning expressed delight at the transformation, with many describing the new facility as a source of pride for the entire DELSU community.

The renovated secretariat is expected to benefit successive administrations and further strengthen student governance at Delta State University, Abraka.
