Ajede Calls For Adequate Care For Ex-Servicemen, Widows, Dependents Of Fallen Heroes

The Capacity and Performing Executive Chairman of Ukwuani Local Government Area, Hon. (Barr) C.S Possible Ajede, has called for sustained and adequate care, as well as improved welfare, for Ex-Servicesmen, widows and dependants of fallen heroes across the country.

Barr. Ajede made the call today, Wednesday, January 15th, 2026 during the Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day held in Ukwuani Local Government Council Secretariat playground where Nigerian known and unknown fallen heroes were honoured.

In his all encompassing address, the Ukwuani Council Chairman said the fallen heroes defended the sovereignty of the Nigerian state with their blood and lives, noting that beyond celebrating their memories, their widows, children and dependants must be adequately cared for.

Speaking further, Barr. Ajede gave the assurance that under his administration’s DO MORE AGENDA that the council will continue to take adequate care of the Ex-Servicesmen across the LGA.

As the Chief Security Officer of the local government, Barr. Ajede thanked the Nigerian Army, Police, Vigilante group, Hunters, Anti-Cult volunteers, the Department of State Services (DSS), the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other security agencies for what he described as their unrelenting contributions to peace and order in Ukwuani LGA.

The Ukwuani Council Boss also commended the Service Chiefs and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces across the country for their belief in the dignity, sovereignty and unity of Nigeria, as well as their tireless efforts in combating insurgency and other security threats facing the nation.

The celebration was spiced up when the Ukwuani Council Chairman approved the payment of ₦100,000 to each ex-serviceman as part of their monthly stipends instituted last year under his administration’s DO MORE AGENDA. The payments were credited directly to beneficiaries while the event was still ongoing.

In addition, 10kg bags of rice were distributed to members of the Nigerian Legion in Ukwuani, which the DO MORE AGENDA Torchbearer described as his modest way of appreciating their sacrifices. He further assured them that the office which he allocated to the Legion last year would be renovated and furnished in the coming weeks.

While delivering a brief exhortation at the ceremony, Ven. Frank Emeni lamented the poor living conditions of many Ex-Servicesmen across the country, noting that some are maimed, depressed, mentally challenged, while others according to him, have resorted to alcohol as a means of escape from physical and psychological trauma.

Ven. Emeni therefore called on governments at all levels to develop sustained frameworks for the welfare of Ex-Servicesmen so they can live happy and fulfilled lives as veterans, even as he noted that given the sacrifices made by the military, they should not be remembered only once a year but daily.

Prayers were offered for the peace, unity, security and leadership of Nigeria, as well as for Ex-Servicesmen and their dependants.

Earlier, the Nigerian Legion in Ukwuani LGA, in their brief remarks, lauded Barr. Ajede for consistently celebrating them annually and for supporting their welfare and that of their dependants beyond mere rhetoric. They prayed God for his protection, wisdom and favour for him in all his endeavours.

Highlights of the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day organised by the Ukwuani Local Government Council included the 2026 Emblem Launch, Praise and Worship, parade by the Nigerian Legion, inspection of the guard by the Chief Security Officer of Ukwuani LGA, laying of wreaths at the cenotaph of the Unknown Soldier, and the 21-gun salute.

Dignitaries present at the ceremony include: Hon. Nkechi Echigbue (Vice Chairman of Council), Mr. Osondu Chukwunomnazu (SLG), HRM Amb. Donald Ekeruche (the Ebu of Umuebu), HRM Evang. Dr. R.C Osanwuta JP (the Ezhie of Ezionum Kingdom), HRM Eze Paul Solomon Ifeneziuche (the Igwete of AMAI Kingdom), and Onochiezes.

Others include; Rt. Hon. Enefazu Frank Roy (Deputy Leader of the House, Ukwuani 8th Assembly), Mr. Okolo Emeke (Supervisor for Education), Mr. Jeffery Opone Ybj (Supervisor for Agric), Hon.
