APC Leaders, Stakeholders Back Akpovwovwo’s Second-Term Bid

Leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Agbon Kingdom, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State, on Tuesday convened a strategic stakeholders’ meeting at the country home of the Deputy Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Olorogun Barr. Arthur Akpovwovwo, in Eku.

The meeting was convened by Rt. Hon. Akpovwovwo in collaboration with the Commissioner for Higher Education, Chief Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari, and the Chairman of Ethiope East Local Government Council, Chief Augustine Ogedegbe.

At the meeting, apex APC leaders from across Agbon Kingdom used the platform to passionately appeal to party members and constituents in the kingdom’s eight wards to mobilize and vote massively for APC candidates in the 2027 general elections, spanning the presidential, governorship, National Assembly, State Assembly, and other elective positions.

Addressing the gathering, Rt. Honourable Akpovwovwo emphasised the strategic importance of Agbon Kingdom within Ethiope East and Delta State at large.

He noted that the kingdom boasts over 90,000 registered voters across eight wards, a figure he described as significant enough to determine electoral outcomes.

He expressed concern that during the last general elections, Abraka, with only three wards, recorded a higher number of votes than Agbon Kingdom.

According to him, this disparity negatively affected Agbon’s political relevance, resulting in fewer appointments and reduced recognition at the state level.

“Only when we deliver overwhelming votes can we, as leaders, confidently approach the governor to attract development to our constituency. In 2027, we must not look backwards; we must look forward and work hard to produce the needed votes,” he said.

He further stressed that communities such as Okpara Inland, Eku, and Kokori possess substantial voting strength, but lamented the persistent challenge of voter turnout and coordination.

The lawmaker opined that the Agbon Kingdom historically determined electoral outcomes in the area, but internal disunity over time weakened its political influence.

Rt. Hon. Akpovwovwo also observed that the relatively improved performance of Ethiope East in the last elections contributed to the area securing key positions such as the Deputy Speakership, Commissioner for Higher Education, Director of Protocol (DOP), and other notable appointments.

In his remarks, Chief Augustine Ogedengbe thanked party stakeholders for their steadfastness and emphasised the critical role of unity and collective action ahead of the 2027 elections.

He urged party faithful and community members to desist from pull-down syndrome, malice, and other divisive tendencies, warning that such actions ultimately harm the community more than political opponents.

Describing politics as “a game of interest,” Chief Ogedegbe stressed that communities that actively support a government through credible votes are more likely to attract developmental projects and political benefits.

“The outcome of elections determines how responsive leaders will be to requests. When a constituency fails to deliver votes, it becomes embarrassing for its leaders to advocate for projects,” he noted.

He added that disunity has weakened Agbon’s political standing and called on stakeholders to work together strategically, noting that deviation from agreed political structures often leads to betrayal and poor electoral outcomes.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Higher Education, Chief Prof. Nyerhovwo Tonukari, aligned with earlier speakers and expressed confidence that Agbon Kingdom would record improved electoral outcomes in the coming elections.

He commended the developmental strides of Governor Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori, noting his effective representation of Delta Central interests at the State Executive Council.

Chief Tonukari highlighted the collective efforts of Rt. Hon. Akpovwovwo, Chief James Omeru, and himself in securing the governor’s approval for the reconstruction of the Ekpan-Ovu–Okpara–Erhoike Road.

“Without agitation, you cannot get much from government,” he said, revealing that the 2026 budget allocates a minimum of ₦7 billion per local government for road development and infrastructure.

He therefore encouraged continuous engagement and advocacy.

Meanwhile, Chief (Elder) Godwin Ogbetuo while describing it as “shameful” that Abraka with three wards could outperform Agbon Kingdom’s eight wards in vote delivery, called on stakeholders to rise to the challenge and subsequently moved a motion of confidence in the second-term bid of Rt. Hon. Olorogun Barr. Arthur Akpovwovwo.

The motion was unanimously adopted after being seconded by Olorogun Barr. Akpodiogaga Emeyese, a former three-time member of the Delta State House of Assembly and former member of the House of Representatives.

The well-attended meeting featured contributions from past leaders, political appointees, and members of the legislative arm of the Ethiope East Local Government Council, reflecting broad-based support within the APC structure.

Other dignitaries in attendance included Chief (Elder) Godwin Egbetuo, Chief Mike Adiotomre, Olorogun Barr. Akpodiogaga Emeyese, Chief Faith Majemite, Chief James Omeru, Barr. George Orogun, Chief Lucky Emojeya, Chief Alex Imarah, Chief Okpubigho, Dr Venture Oyiborhorho, Chief Odet Bravo, Hon. Michael Eshebinoma, Chief Davidson Okparamidevi, Olorogun Julius Eguvwebere, Chief Philip Eyagomare, Chief Ben Edoja, Barr. Chief Sunny Okoro, most legislative councillors, and several other party leaders and stakeholders.
