Extrajudicial Killing Of Liberty Kunu Raises Concerns About Police Integrity, Professionalism –Comr. Agberen

Comr. (Amb) Derrick Oritsematosan Agberen, National Coordinator, Initiative For Social Rights Concerns And Advancements (ISRCA) AKA “No Justice, No Peace,” has said that “there is an imperative need for the Delta State Police Command to exhibit high-level professionalism with unwavering integrity, devoid of sentiments.”

He said this in a statement made available to Oasis Magazine on Monday.

According to him, “the recent extrajudicial killing of Mr. Liberty Kunu, the SOS Commander of a civilian security outfit, by police operatives under the CP Decoy Squad of the Delta State Police Command, allegedly linked to the incident raises grave concerns about the integrity and professionalism of the Nigeria Police Force.”

He continued; “The recent disclosures by AIG, Zone 5 in the probe into the late Mr. Liberty Kunu’s murder, highlight the substandard investigative journalism underscored by the Delta State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer’s reports, SP Bright Edafe, which also prompted the parade and display of arms by the Commissioner Of Police, CP Aina Adesola.

“First, the Nigeria Police Force Delta State Command displayed the same firearms known to be used by civilian security outfits as guns recovered from them, alleging them to be kidnappers, despite prior knowledge that these groups had been employing the firearms to aid security agencies in combating crime and insecurity in Sapele and Warri areas.

“This deliberate scheme underscores the police’s apparent willingness to obscure a conspiracy, potentially for damage control or to conceal the misconduct of police operatives, reflecting poorly on the investigative reports that were circulated inconclusively, as recent revelations regarding the alleged murder of Mr. Liberty Kunu could have been thoroughly investigated and unraveled by the Delta State Police Command.”

Continuing, Agberen, said that “the Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola should cultivate a conducive environment that enables residents and locals to flourish, thereby enhancing their trust and confidence in the Police, especially during these challenging times, and must uphold accountability and maintain high standards of integrity among police officers under the Delta State Command.”
