Prof Stella Chiemeke Calls On Women To Continue To Break Barriers, Disprove Unhealthy Stereotypes

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Delta, Agbor, Prof Stella Chinye Chiemeke, has called on women to continue to break barriers and disprove unhealthy stereotypes associated with them in order to inspire the next generation of women to put in their best in the interest of the human race.

The Vice Chancellor made this call in her office yesterday while reacting to the two awards she received from Africa Education Summit in collaboration with Global Skills Hub (United Kingdom) in Accra, Ghana, and the Asaba Chapter of the Association of Professional Women Engineers of Nigeria (APWEN) in Asaba, Nigeria.

The Accra award recognized Prof Chiemeke among the 100 Most Impactful Education Personalities in Africa in 2025, particularly for her “exceptional contributions to the advancement of education and for transformative impact in strengthening learning, leadership and educational development across Africa”, during the 4th Africa Education Summit which held at the University of Professional Studies in Accra, Ghana. Similarly, the Asaba award was in recognition of her “Outstanding Leadership” by the Asaba Chapter of APWEN during the association’s Inauguration of the 4th Chairman/Executives and Public Lecture titled “She Engineer: A Catalyst of Change – Empowering Women to Redefine Nigeria’s Engineering Future” which was delivered by Engr Dr Oduware OKosun of the Department of Computer Engineering in the University of Benin, Benin City.

Prof Chiemeke praised God, who gave her the grace to function and thanked the Delta State Government for the appointments that gave her the opportunity to contribute her quota to the education sector both as former Rector of the Delta State Polytechnic, Ogwashi-Uku, and current Vice Chancellor of the University of Delta, Agbor. She equally expressed appreciation to all who voted for her in the secret poll jointly conducted by Africa Education Summit and Global Skills Hub (United Kingdom), and APWEN (Asaba Chapter). She described both awards as a challenge to strive to make more positive impact on humanity.

Present at the award ceremony in Accra, Ghana, were fellow Vice Chancellors from Nigerian universities and the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), while the award ceremony in Asaba, which also featured the inauguration of APWEN Collegiate Unit for female engineering students of the University of Delta, Agbor, was attended by the Member representing Aniocha North in the Delta State House of Assembly and Leader of the House, Hon Engr Emeka Emmanuel Nwaobi; Honourable Commissioner for Higher Education in Delta State, Prof Nyerhovwo Tonukari; the Obi of Issele-Uku, HRM Agbogidi Obi Engr Nduka Ezeagwuna as well as the Deputy Vice Chancellor of the University of Delta, Agbor, Prof Patrick Nkemdilim Ijeh, who received the award on behalf of Prof Chiemeke.
