DELSU Unveils Free Oil And Gas Training For Final-Year Students

Final-year students of Delta State University have been given an opportunity to participate in a free professional training programme in the oil and gas sector, scheduled to hold later this month.

This was disclosed in an internal memorandum issued on April 13, 2026, by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic), Engr. Prof. Hilary Ijeoma Owamah.

According to the memo, the training is being organized in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Effurun and the university’s Career Service Unit/Counselling Centre. It is targeted at final-year students from the Faculties of Computing, Education, Engineering, and Science.

The programme, described as a Professional Oil and Gas Training initiative, will be conducted in line with global best practices, industry standards, and regulatory frameworks. It will incorporate guidelines and codes from key regulatory bodies such as the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, as well as other relevant national regulations.

Areas of training will include Health and Safety Education, Computer Science, Engineering disciplines, Geology, Industrial Chemistry, and Physics.

The university has directed Deans of the affected faculties to nominate ten outstanding final-year students from each specified field. Nominees are expected to demonstrate strong academic performance and exemplary character, with supporting evidence such as feedback from lecturers and peers where necessary.

All nominations are to be submitted to the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) on or before April 17, 2026, for review and onward transmission.

The training, which is free of charge, is scheduled to take place April 27 and 28, 2026.
