Abuja Roundtable Set To Resolve Delta Central NDC Primary Dispute

ABUJA — The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is set to hold a crucial roundtable meeting in Abuja to resolve the controversy surrounding its Delta Central Senatorial District primary election, amid competing claims of victory by Olorogun Onome Bernice Dema and former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege.

Speaking in a telephone conversation with Oasis Magazine on Sunday, Dema’s Media Aide, Comrade Joseph Oghenerukevwe Edegware, disclosed that the party’s national leadership had stepped in to mediate the dispute and chart a way forward for both camps.

According to Edegware, the meeting, which was initially scheduled to hold earlier in the day, was postponed to the evening to allow key stakeholders and the contending parties to participate in the reconciliation process.

He revealed that Omo-Agege had made several attempts to reach Dema following the disputed primary election, but she had yet to return the calls.

Edegware maintained that Dema remains convinced she won the primary election and dismissed reports suggesting that she had stepped down from the race or congratulated Omo-Agege.

The aide said his principal remains the duly elected candidate of the party for Delta Central Senatorial District and urged supporters to disregard reports to the contrary.

He further alleged that irregularities marred the primary election outcome being claimed by Omo-Agege’s camp, insisting that the exercise was intended strictly for accredited party members.

While expressing confidence in the party’s internal conflict-resolution mechanism, Edegware said Dema’s camp would participate in the Abuja talks in good faith and await the outcome of the deliberations.

However, he noted that should the party fail to resolve the dispute satisfactorily, the camp would not rule out seeking legal redress to determine the rightful winner of the primary election.
