DELSU Holds 2026 SIWES Orientation For 200-Level Students, VC Urges Commitment To Exercise
The Directorate of Students Industrial Work Experience Scheme (SIWES), Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, has organised its 2026 SIWES Orientation programme for students in 200 Level.
Speaking during the event on Friday, May 22, 2026, which held at the 750 Lecture Theatre A, Site III, DELSU, Abraka, Vice Chancellor of DELSU, Professor Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba, advised the students to be serious with the Industrial Training (IT) exercise.
Represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Edmund Atakpo, Professor Asagba, stated that the IT exercise was a bridge between classroom knowledge and the real world experience.
He further stated that the experience gained during IT could become invaluable throughout one’s lifetime.
He concluded by citing instances ‘of students’ abscondment from place of IT, saying such would not help students’ future.
Professor Asagba, thereafter declared the 2026 SIWES orientation programme opened.
Director of DELSU SIWES, Professor Sunday Efe, in his speech earlier, expressed appreciation to the Vice Chancellor for approving the 2026 SIWES Orientation programme for 200 Level students.
Professor Efe also commended the SIWES Departmental Coordinators and students for attending the programme.
He warned students against ‘ghosty syndrome’ during the IT period, the practice whereby students go to IT industry once for resumption, then disappear and reappear only for supervision.

He said SIWES Directorate frowns at this practice and cautioned that any student who indulges in it will repeat the IT exercise.

Professor Efe concluded by calling on students to take advantage of the orientation programme by equipping themselves with relevant knowledge ahead of the 2026 IT exercise.
The orientation programme later went into sessions where relevant topics on the IT exercise were discussed.
Other highlights of the orientation programme were question and answer time after each topic was discussed and photo session.
Dignitaries present during the orientation programme included Vice Chancellor of DELSU, Professor Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba, represented by Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Edmund Atakpo, SIWES’ Director, Professor Sunday Efe, SIWES’ Deputy Director, Dr Emmanuel Tonukari, CIPR Deputy Director, Dr Ese Umukoro, Dr Alex Eyefia, staff of the SIWES’ Directorate, SIWES’ Departmental Coordinators as well as students.
