DELSU Holds Matriculation Ceremony For Law, Engineering Students At Oleh Campus

Delta State University ( DELSU) Abraka on Saturday matriculated Law and Engineering Students in the Faculty of Law and Faculty of Engineering of the Oleh Campus, respectively at the 1000 sitting capacity Lecture Hall in the Faculty of Engineering, Oleh Campus, Oleh.

In his address, the Vice-Chancellor of the Delta State University, Abraka, Professor Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba welcomed all to the matriculation ceremony of students admitted into the Law and Engineering faculties of DELSU, Abraka in the 2025/2026 Academic Session.

Asagba pointed out that the said ceremony was the second matriculation exercise he was presiding over as the 8th substantive Vice-Chancellor of the institution, since assumption of office on 2nd December, 2024.

Asagba stated that among the students newly admitted were 118 students in the Faculty of Law and 592 students in the Faculty of Engineering.

According to him, the newly admitted students were the few privileged ones among the candidates that applied for admission to DELSU for the 2025/2026 Academic Session.

Asagba stated further that: “Matriculation ceremony is a requirement in higher institutions and the oath is an initiation into the intellectual community, because it confers on you, full rights of studentship. Therefore, it is a universal academic tradition for any would – be scholar in pursuit of higher education. Today, as you subscribe to the rite of this landmark academic tradition, you will become formally admitted into the Delta State University, Abraka” .

He emphasized that the students ( UTME/ DE and Diploma) matriculating today have undergone the usual admission processes and have been adjudged qualified for the Matriculation ceremony.

He told the matriculants that while they are in DELSU as students, they need to be diligent in their academic work and be honest in the pursuit of their dreams in DELSU, Abraka.

In the words of the university strongman: ” You must avoid being captives of the social media, which is a subtle distraction and time stealer.”

He advised that as students they should comport themselves very well, observe the rules and regulations of DELSU, and refrain from activities which are inimical to the growth of intellectualism, indiscipline, lawlessness, particularly when such actions involve violence, cultism, yahoo plus and breach of the peace of the university. He admonished the students to eschew examination malpractice, indecent dressing and any kind of action that is unbecoming of an undergraduate.

Asagba mentioned that with recent accreditation reports, the National Universities Commission ( NUC) in conjunction with the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board ( JAMB) has increased the university carrying capacity in CAPS to 8,974 candidates.

He used the opportunity to express profound appreciation to the Executive Governor and Visitor of the DELSU, Abraka, Rt. Hon.( Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori and the government of Delta State for the giant strides taken in the overall development of the university.

He vowed that his administration will remain focused in its pursuit of academic excellence and pursue the prudent management of the meagre resources of the university for its overall development. He congratulated the newly admitted students.

The Registrar of DELSU, Abraka, Mrs Rufina Ufiofio administered the Matriculation oath on the students.

The oath taken, included that on admission to membership of the Delta State University Abraka the matriculants would respect and obey the Vice-Chancellor of the University and other officers of the University and faithfully observe all the regulations of the university.

Dignitaries who attended the event, included Professor Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba, Vice-Chancellor of the Delta State University Abraka, Professor Edmund Atakpo, Deputy Vice– Chancellor ( Administration), Professor Hilary Owamah , Deputy Vice–Chancellor ( Academic) , Professor Austin Atonuje, Provost, Oleh Campus, Dr.(Mrs) Josephine Onohwakpor, University Librarian, Mrs. Ekakitie – Omojuwa, University Bursar, Professor k. Oghenejobor, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, and Professor( Mrs) Beauty Alloh, represented by Professor A.C.E Abuza.

Other dignitaries who attended the event, included Professor Odokuma ,Professor I. Njoseh, Professor Majority Oji, Professor Mathias Ekpu, Professor Oghogho Ikponwosa, Dr. Brown Umukoro, Dr. Moses Omozue, Dr. Peter Itsueli, Ms C. Okeke, J. Omagbemi Ariko, L. Onanugà and Mrs. Martha Amaka- Obi.
