Rights Activist Raises Alarm Over Alleged Assault, Detention Of MC Aproko

A Delta State-based rights activist, Godstime Ukanovvwe, has raised concerns over the arrest and detention of Comrade Vincent Aki, popularly known as MC Aproko, alleging that he was assaulted while in police custody.

Ukanovvwe made the statement in a Facebook post after visiting the Isiokolo Police Station where the social commentator is being detained.

According to him, he observed visible bruises on MC Aproko’s body during the visit, raising concerns about his treatment in custody.

He stated that he spoke with the Divisional Police Officer, CSP Linton Itedjere, who allegedly informed him that the arrest was carried out on the directive of the Area Commander in Ughelli.

The activist further claimed that the DPO admitted he had no detailed information regarding the alleged offence, insisting that he merely acted on instructions to effect the arrest.

Ukanovvwe said he demanded the unconditional release of MC Aproko, but was told that officers from the Area Command were expected to take over the matter.

He described the development as troubling and alleged that it could be part of efforts by certain powerful individuals and politicians to intimidate voices demanding transparency and accountability.

The activist also called on the Nigeria Police Force Commissioner of Police in Delta State to order the immediate release of MC Aproko and caution officers against abuse of power and unlawful detention.

“The rights and liberties of citizens must be respected at all times,” he stated.
