Omo-Agege Fires Back At Oborevwori, Backs Obi, Insists He Won NDC Primary

Former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, has dismissed claims by Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, that he poses no political threat, insisting that his electoral record and growing support base across Delta State remain strong.

Speaking during a live interview on Arise TV’s The Morning Show on Wednesday, Omo-Agege responded to allegations by Oborevwori that he failed to consult party stakeholders before contesting the APC governorship primary and that he could not be trusted politically.

The former governorship candidate argued that the 2023 elections demonstrated his political strength, noting that the APC under his leadership won two of Delta State’s three Senate seats and secured key victories in Delta Central Senatorial District.

According to him, he defeated Oborevwori in Delta Central during the governorship election by polling more votes in their shared senatorial district and also led the APC to victories in several House of Representatives and State Assembly contests.

Omo-Agege claimed that following the 2023 elections, many PDP members defected to the APC because they believed he had been unfairly denied victory in the governorship race.

He alleged that Oborevwori’s eventual defection to the APC was motivated by fears over his growing influence ahead of the 2027 elections.

Addressing claims that he was sidelined after the governor joined the APC and allegedly inherited the party structure, Omo-Agege said while the party’s administrative machinery may have been taken over, his grassroots support remained intact.

He maintained that he consulted widely with his supporters before contesting the APC governorship primary and claimed that he won overwhelmingly across the state’s wards, alleging that the process was manipulated against him.

The former Deputy Senate President also confirmed that he has fully aligned with the NDC and will support the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in the 2027 election.

“Of course, my presidential candidate is Peter Obi. I am now a member of the NDC and my loyalty is total,” he said.

On reports that his victory in the NDC Delta Central Senatorial primary was being disputed, Omo-Agege dismissed the claims, insisting that he won the contest across all eight local government areas of the district.

He said the results would be formally ratified by the party’s leadership, adding that suggestions to the contrary were being spread by political opponents seeking to undermine his standing.

The former lawmaker further expressed confidence in the NDC’s newly selected governorship candidate for Delta State, describing him as a competent administrator with the experience to provide effective leadership and address challenges facing the state.

Omo-Agege also took a swipe at the Oborevwori administration, arguing that despite substantial federal allocations received by the state in recent years, the government had little to show in terms of development beyond a few infrastructure projects.

Responding to questions about his previous support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his recent endorsement of Obi, Omo-Agege said his position on key economic reforms, including fuel subsidy removal and naira flotation, had not changed.

He maintained that he still supports those policies but now believes they can be more effectively implemented under the NDC platform, while insisting that it was the APC that abandoned him and his supporters, not the other way around.
