Dema Congratulates Iyowaye, Says Victory Reflects Will Of The People

Delta Central Senatorial aspirant of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Olorogun Dr. Mrs. Onome Bernice Dema, has congratulated DCN Chris Iyowaye on his emergence as the party’s governorship candidate, describing his victory as a triumph of democracy and the collective will of party members.

In a statement issued by her Media Aide, Comrade J.O. Edegware, Dema said the outcome of the governorship primary reaffirmed the supremacy of the people’s mandate and demonstrated that the wishes of party members could not be suppressed or manipulated by a few individuals pursuing personal interests.

Dema expressed concern over what she described as attempts by certain groups and political actors who recently joined the NDC to take control of the party’s structures and influence the emergence of candidates for key elective positions, including the governorship.

According to her, such actions run contrary to the democratic ideals and principles upon which the party was founded.

The politician maintained that no individual, regardless of status or influence, should be allowed to dominate the party or impose leadership choices against the wishes of the majority.

She commended party faithful for remaining steadfast in defending democracy and ensuring that the electoral process reflected the genuine aspirations of members.

“Iyowaye’s victory sends a clear message that power belongs to the people and not to a select few seeking to hijack the party’s structures for personal gain. The will of the people has prevailed and democracy has won,” she stated.

The NDC chieftain also reassured her supporters to remain resolute, expressing confidence that the mandate freely given by party members would be protected and consolidated.

“We want to assure all our supporters to remain steadfast as victory is certain. The mandate freely given cannot be negotiated or traded in any form,” she added.

Dema further urged members of the party to remain united and committed to strengthening the NDC ahead of the 2027 general election, stressing that cohesion and collective effort would be critical to the party’s success at the polls.
