Omo-Agege: N750Bn Sitting Idle In CBN Shows Delta Govt Is Clueless

LAGOS — Former Deputy Senate President, Ovie Omo-Agege, has accused the Delta State Government of financial mismanagement, alleging that about ₦750 billion belonging to the state is lying idle in an account with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) because the administration lacks the capacity to deploy the funds for development.

Speaking on Wednesday during a live interview on The Morning Show, Omo-Agege described Governor Sheriff Oborevwori as “clueless,” arguing that despite unprecedented revenue inflows, the state has little to show for the resources at its disposal.

According to him, Delta State has received more than ₦3.15 trillion in the last three years, yet critical sectors of the economy and social services remain underdeveloped.

“As I speak to you right now, despite the receipt of this ₦3.15 trillion in three years, we have about ₦750 billion of state funds sitting idle in the CBN because this government is just clueless,” Omo-Agege said.

“They don’t even know what to do with the money.”

The former governorship candidate of the APC in Delta State argued that the existence of such a huge amount of unutilised funds underscores what he called the administration’s failure to formulate and implement policies capable of addressing the challenges facing residents.

He maintained that the funds could have been channelled towards tackling hunger, improving healthcare delivery, upgrading schools, providing housing and strengthening security across the state.

Omo-Agege further criticized the Oborevwori administration for what he described as an overreliance on a few infrastructure projects while neglecting broader developmental needs.

“There’s nothing on ground in Delta State other than three or four flyovers, as if flyovers are what governance is all about,” he said.

The former Deputy Senate President said Delta requires leadership with the experience to manage resources effectively and convert public revenue into tangible benefits for citizens.

He expressed confidence that the opposition’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election would offer a more competent alternative, describing the individual as someone with experience in wealth creation and resource management.

Omo-Agege’s comments came as he defended his recent political moves and renewed his criticism of the Delta State Government, insisting that the state has the financial capacity to achieve far more than it currently has if available resources are properly utilized.

The Delta State Government had yet to respond to the allegations at the time of filing this report.
