Abraka: Suspected Burglar Arrested With Stolen Plasmas, Air Conditioners After Failed Escape

A suspected burglar, identified as Emma, has been arrested after allegedly stealing two plasma televisions and two air conditioners from an LG shop before attempting to flee. He was eventually intercepted by local vigilante operatives and handed over to the police.

The incident occurred at Kuti Junction in Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area of Delta State.

According to a member of the local vigilante group who recounted the incident, the suspect was first spotted along Winners Road carrying two plasma televisions on his head. Vigilante operatives stopped him and questioned him about the items.

The suspect reportedly claimed that he worked as a cleaner for a “Yahoo boy” and had been instructed to move the televisions. He also told the vigilantes that another person was bringing the remaining items.

Convinced by his explanation, the vigilantes instructed him to place the televisions on the ground while they waited for the other person. However, the suspect suddenly took to his heels, triggering a chase. Despite shouts of “Thief! Thief!”, he managed to escape into the nearby Big Market.

According to the source, the suspect later returned to the shop and allegedly removed two air conditioners. While attempting to transport the items on a commercial motorcycle to Eku via the bridge, the motorcyclist—who was also a member of the local vigilante group—became suspicious and alerted fellow vigilante operatives.

The suspect was reportedly dropped off at Urhuovie Market after the rider declined to continue the journey. Acting on the tip-off, vigilante operatives swiftly mobilised to the area.

On sighting the vigilante team’s vehicle, the suspect attempted to flee once again, but the operatives laid an ambush and successfully apprehended him.

During interrogation by the vigilante operatives, the suspect reportedly disclosed that he resides in Orerokpe.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) was immediately notified, and police officers arrived at the scene to take the suspect into custody.

The suspect was subsequently taken to the police station, where investigations into the alleged burglary are ongoing.
