DELSU SUG Applauds VC As Nine-Day Students’ Week Begins

ABRAKA — The Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, has applauded the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Samuel Asagba, and the university management for their unwavering support as the institution’s annual nine-day Students’ Week begins.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Oasis Magazine, the SUG President, Comrade Kingsley Dumude, described the relationship between the Students’ Union and the Vice-Chancellor as cordial and productive, saying the administration’s support has been instrumental to the successful commencement of the week-long celebration.

According to Dumude, the 2026 Students’ Week began on Saturday with an awareness rally, followed by a praise festival on Sunday and an academic debate on Monday. Other activities lined up for the celebration include Old School and Switch Day, Jersey Peace Day, Cultural Day and Trade Fair, while the event will culminate in a Grand Dinner and Award Night on Sunday.

He explained that the decision to stage the celebration over nine days was aimed at making the event more inclusive and giving every student an opportunity to participate.

“It has been amazing, although stressful. It’s a nine-day event, and we’re committed to ensuring that every activity is successful and memorable for our students,” Dumude said.

He noted that the Students’ Union deliberately introduced a variety of activities to create a lively atmosphere and encourage participation from students across all faculties.

“Our agenda is to make it fun for students, make it lively and accommodating. We want everyone to participate in one way or another. That’s why we made it open to everybody—students, management and staff,” he added.

The SUG President also reaffirmed the union’s commitment to students’ welfare, encouraging students not to suffer in silence but to always seek assistance from the union whenever they encounter challenges.

“Our message is that the SUG is always there for students. Whatever they are going through, they should not keep it to themselves. They should always speak up because we are ready to listen and help,” he said.

Dumude reserved special praise for Professor Samuel Asagba, describing the Vice-Chancellor as a father figure whose accessibility and encouragement have strengthened the relationship between the university management and the Students’ Union.

“He’s like a father to us. Whenever I call, he responds, and whenever I visit his office, he’s always welcoming. We’ve had a very smooth and amazing working relationship,” he said.

Asked to assess the level of support received from the university management, the SUG President gave the administration a perfect rating.

“I’ll rate the management’s support 10 over 10. Financially, morally and administratively, they have always supported us.”

As activities continue with the Cultural Day and Trade Fair before the Grand Dinner and Award Night on Sunday, anticipation remains high across the Abraka campus as students celebrate another edition of the university’s annual Students’ Week.
