Ika Nation: Igbenije Joins Stakeholders To Advance Unity, Peace And Good Governance

The Member representing Ika nationality on the Board of the Commission, Hon. Cosmas N. Igbenije on Saturday, August 15, 2026 joined other kinsmen, stakeholders and members of Ika nation at the 26th Ogwa Ika Annual Lecture Series held at the Otolokpo Community Hall, Otolokpo Town in Ika South Local Government Area.
Organised by the Onu Ika Nigeria Head Collective Leadership and Members, the annual lecture provided a platform for meaningful reflection and constructive dialogue on issues shaping the present and future of Ika Nation.
The 2026 edition themed, “Governance and Peace Building in Ika Nation” focused attention on the vital relationship between responsible leadership, peace, unity and sustainable development.
Hon. Igbenije’s participation added significance to the gathering, particularly in view of his responsibility to represent the interests of the Ika ethnic nationality on the DESOPADEC Board. His presence underscored his commitment to engaging with issues concerning the welfare, unity and development of Ika people, as stakeholders deliberated on ways to strengthen peaceful coexistence and promote good governance across Ika nation.
The lecture featured Amb. Joe Chiedu Keshi, a seasoned diplomat and conflict-resolution expert as the keynote speaker whose wealth of experience in diplomacy and conflict resolution provided valuable perspectives on peace building, effective leadership and the importance of mutual understanding among communities and stakeholders within Ika nation.

Beyond the formal presentations, the gathering reinforced the importance of collective responsibility in building a peaceful, united and progressive Ika nation. The event provided an avenue for stakeholders to exchange ideas, identify common challenges and consider practical measures capable of strengthening unity and creating an environment conducive for sustainable development.
Hon. Igbenije’s participation in the 26th Ogwa Ika Annual Lecture Series further demonstrates his willingness to identify with important conversations on the future of Ika nation as well as support the collective pursuit of peace, unity, responsible governance and sustainable development.
As Ika Nation continues to confront the challenges and opportunities of the present, platforms such as the Ogwa Ika Annual Lecture Series remain crucial for dialogue, reconciliation, knowledge sharing and constructive engagement.
The participation of stakeholders such as Hon. Igbenije highlights the need for leaders and citizens to work together in building a stronger, more united and peaceful Ika nation.
