INEC Restores Abraka State Constituency, Two Others In Delta, Reinstates Yagba West II In Kogi

ABRAKA, DELTA STATE — The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has restored the Abraka State Constituency, ending years of its suppression and paving the way for its participation in the 2027 general elections.

The electoral body also announced the restoration of Isoko North II and Ughelli South II State Constituencies in Delta State, as well as Yagba West II State Constituency in Kogi State.

INEC disclosed this in a press statement issued on August 14, 2026, saying the decision followed judgments delivered by the courts directing the commission to restore the affected constituencies.

According to the commission, the restoration of the constituencies was in compliance with court orders mandating their reinstatement.

The development is expected to generate significant interest in Abraka and other affected communities, as residents will once again have the opportunity to elect representatives into their respective State Houses of Assembly.

INEC also announced that political parties will conduct primaries between August 21 and 25, 2026, for the forthcoming bye-elections to fill vacancies in Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye State Constituency, Udu State Constituency in Delta State, and Dawakin Kudu State Constituency in Kano State.

The commission said the bye-elections for the affected constituencies would be held on September 19, 2026.

INEC further stated that the recently published revised timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 General Election would apply to the restored constituencies.

The commission urged political parties to submit notices of their primaries before their scheduled dates.

INEC reaffirmed its commitment to conducting credible, inclusive, and transparent electoral processes across the country.
