N18.29Bn Budget: Ughelli North Residents Deserve Answers, NOM Tells Jaro Egbo

The New Order Movement (NOM) has called on the Executive Chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Barr. Jaro Egbo, to provide greater transparency and accountability on the utilisation of funds allocated to the local government in 2026.

The group said the call became necessary amid what it described as growing frustration among residents over the absence of tangible development across the local government.

In a statement signed by its Director-General, Alex Ovei Idu, NOM noted that Ughelli North has a 2026 budget of N18.29 billion, in addition to other state government interventions earmarked for the local government.

According to the movement, residents have the right to know how the funds are being applied and what projects are being executed with the resources available to the council.

NOM therefore urged the Jaro Egbo-led administration to publish a detailed account of all allocations received by the local government in 2026.

It also demanded a comprehensive update on the status of projects promised to the people, while calling on the council chairman to engage relevant stakeholders to rebuild trust and confidence at the grassroots.

The group further stated that it had documentary evidence relating to allocations to Ughelli North Local Government Area, which it said it was prepared to present to the appropriate authorities in the interest of accountability and due process.

NOM stressed that its demand was aimed at ensuring transparency in the management of public resources and enabling residents to understand how government funds were being utilised.

The movement maintained that the people of Ughelli North deserved to see and feel the dividends of democracy through visible development projects and effective delivery of services.

Meanwhile, the chairman of Ughelli North Local Government Area, Barr. Jaro Egbo, was contacted for his response to the issues raised by NOM. However, as of the time of filing this report, no response had been received from him.
