Ethiope East LGA Will Get Electronic Register For Council Staff In 2018- Majemite

The Chairman, Ethiope East Local Government Area, Delta State, Chief Faith Majemite, has disclosed that Sixty Five Million Naira (#65,000 000) is the total sum spent monthly for payment of salaries of council workers in the area, saying that the trend cannot continue since the monthly allocation for the council cannot take care of the workers’ wage bill.

Speaking to Oasis Magazine (OM) during a telephone conversation, she added that plans were underway to introduce the Electronic Attendance Register in 2018, just like what obtains in several other local government councils in the state.

This, Majemite said is geared towards tackling the issue of ghost workers.

According to her, the local government was overstaffed and the clocking in and out technology was the way to go, saying that the allocation available to the council was insufficient in meeting the financial burden.

Continuing, Majemite debunked reports making the rounds that the Delta State Government, two days ago released the share of the Paris Club refund to the council, stressing that just like other councils in the State, Ethiope East received theirs in the month of August.

While stating that the money was used in settling a part of the salaries owed workers in the council, she commended the State Government for releasing the sum of Sixty-Four Million Naira (#64, 000000) in addition to the Paris club refund pay to augment for the payment of the salaries of workers in the area.

OM learnt that this assistance from the government was necessary since the money was insufficient because of the payment of the salary of primary school teachers in the local government.

At the time of filing this report, the total number of months still owed the council workers could not be ascertained, as the Chairman had no knowledge of this, and we were yet to get through to the Treasurer in the council.
