…Accuses PDP, APC of Hijacking Process

The adhoc staff recruitment exercise for Delta State 2018 local Government general elections has been described as fraught with fraud, and non transparency.

The Chairman, Accord Party, Isoko South, Comrade Iteveh Ekpokpobe, who addressed newsmen in Olomoro, Isoko South Local Government after a meeting with party failthfuls stated that the manner the exercise was handled by the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission (DSIEC), was a clear indication of what lies ahead.

According to him, the credibility of DSIEC was already in doubt as the adhoc staff were recruited through the back door.

He said that going by the fraudulent dimension the recruitment exercise took, it would not be wrong to question the credibility of the January, 6, 2018 local government general elections. The Chairman also accused the leadership of both Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) of been instrumental to highjacking the electoral process. Iteveh stressed the need for Deltans to stand out and question the Chairman and members of the commission in view of correcting what he described as an anomaly.

In his words, “DSIEC is not the property of any party, or individual. It belongs to Deltans hence due process should be followed. If the adhoc staff recruitment is compromised, the election in essence has lost credibility.”

Iteveh called on the state government to prevail on DSIEC to allow for transparency in their dealings as obtained in other states like Akwa-Ibom and Lagos were Local Government elections were held in recent times.

He said the state governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa is one known for following due process who has proved himself useful in engineering democracy, hence he should be attentive to the DSIEC details and not allow them run wild under his watch.
