The Hon. Commissioner for Environment, Delta State, Chief Barrister John Obukohwo Nani, has received an ‘Award of Excellence’ from the Idjerhe Monarch on behalf of the entire Idjerhe people, for attracting massive development to the agrarian community.
His Royal Majesty, Otadaferua Edward Igho (JP) PNM, Erhiekevvwe 1, Ovie of Idjerhe Kingdom, who presented the award to Chief Nani on behalf of his people in his palace during an event at the palace, explained that the encomium from his subjects over the recipient’s good works across the kingdom necessitated this gesture.
The monarch said: “I feel great and encouraged to issue you the testimony of excellent service due to the volume of encomium pouring in from them to salute you for attracting such numerous developments into the Kingdom, just as the meaning of your chieftaincy title, the “Aghwemutuwewi” of Idjerhe Kingdom connotes. We pray that God should give you more wisdom and strength to enable you attain a greater height.”
The monarch listed some of the projects, such as the road dualization project along the Benin-Warri express way in Jesse town, the administrative headquarters of Idjerhe Kingdom, the reconstruction of the entire road surface from Jesse town to Boboruku, schools projects, water projects and world Bank flooding project amounting to the tune of 5 Billion Naira that has stopped flood in the community and many others.
Hon Nani who was elated with the prestigious ward, commended the good people of Idjerhe Kingdom, describing the actions as a call for more service delivery to his people who recognized his good intentions and good works, adding that he was humbled by the monarch’s award.
“When one is encouraged, he intends to do more, and what the monarch has done today is to show that I am recognized in the kingdom and that I should do more,” he averred.
The commissioner assured his people further that as long as he has the capacity, he will do more for the people and the entire Delta State, which he has been chosen to serve.
He revealed that in the year 2018, the issue of flooding was laid to rest since the Delta State government led by Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa has procured drones which will now make it easy for the Ministry of Environment to locate any area of possible flooding and respond faster to that situation by channeling such flood prone areas away from causing havoc to the people.
He said that in 2017, the Delta State government was proactive to the issue of flooding; hence there was not much flooding recorded, but that this year and subsequently, drones will go round the state through aerial view and if alerted of any possible flooding area, his ministry will prevent such swiftly from happening to keep the state with operating with the world’s standard, just as he commended the Governor for his proactive stands in all situation regarding flooding and other related issues of development in the state.
Chief Ajarho Oyibo another prominent son of Idjere kingdom also commended the royal father for the great honour bestowed on Nani, remarking that “if you do something nice, it is the reward for it. It is good to be appreciated for your good works. Others have come and done theirs before now, but none of these could be compared to what chief Nani has done. I want those in government positions to do more for Idjehe Kingdom by emulating Chief Nani’s style.”
He called on all sons and daughters of the Kingdom to use their position in addressing some of the teething problems in the community, especially with Idjehe Kingdom that is blessed with enough man power, which he said can transform the entire community within a short time in the areas of education, health, while commending the Governor of Delta State Governor Okowa for doing his best in transforming the State.
