Okowa Has Broken The Jinx Of 18 Years Underdevelopment Of Abraka— Evance Ivwurie

The lawmaker representing Ethiope East Local Government Area in the Delta State House of Assembly, and Chairman, House Committee on Works, Hon. (Chief) Evance Ivwurie, has said that the administration of Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa as Governor of Delta State has broken the jinx of 18 years of underdevelopment of Abraka by previous administration in the state.

The lawmaker who spoke to journalists in his Abraka residence yesterday after the Governor’s visit to the local government where he commissioned and inspected several road projects, said that the people of Abraka are excited and grateful to God and the Governor for the construction of roads in the area.
Ivwurie noted that during the democratic era of Delta State that has produced three democratically elected governors, Abraka was abandoned in terms of infrastructural development.
He said: “What we experienced in the past 18 years in Abraka was constant underdevelopment,” adding that the only university in the town is the most disjointed in the world with several of the best faculties in different parts of the state.”
He described the roads in Abraka before Okowa was elected as colonial roads and bush traps that made the community look very unbefitting for a university community and a citadel of learning.
“In the last 18 years, Abraka has not seen any caterpillar or bulldozer. So, you see why Abraka women and others have been dancing and rejoicing here after the commissioning.
“Okowa is today regarded as a blessing to Abraka and a son of the soil,” he said.
He continued: “In the last two administrations and the current governor, Abraka contributed to their elections.
“Abraka accounts for over 50% of the votes cast in any democratic election in Ethiope East. But, for some reasons the community has been strategically underdeveloped, but Okowa took the bull by the horn and broke the jinx and for a start commissioned two roads.”
