Okwuofu Solicits Institution’s Support In Boosting IGR

The Chairman, Delta State Civil Service Commission, Dame Patience Nkem Okwuofu (JP), has urged the members of the Asaba District Society of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN) to assist the state government in boosting the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for the overall growth and development of the state.
Dame Okwuofu, who stated this in Asaba when the executive wing of the State Chapter of the Chartered Institute of Taxation led by its Chairman, Mrs Chinwendu Juliet Uwejeyan, paid her a courtesy call, said that through effective and efficient taxation, government would be able to embark on more infrastructural development.
While reiterating her renewed vigour to transform the civil service to an enviable height, Dame Okwuofu enjoined civil servants to always report cases of irregularities in the service, especially in the area of ghost workers in order to enable the commission take appropriate actions with a view to reducing the wage bill of the state government.
She enjoined the association and other professional bodies in the state to articulate measures of scrutinizing their members to ascertain qualified ones among them, saying that there was the need to continue to checkmate the unbecoming of some civil servants in the state, just as she disclosed that a new unit to winnow off ghost workers in the workforce had been established in the commission.
The chairman maintained that there was the need to boost the state IGR, adding that the association should use its vantage position to forestall tax evasion in the state.
Earlier, the Chairman of the State Chartered Institute of Taxation, Asaba, Mrs. Uwejeyan, said that the purpose of the visit was to appreciate the chairman for transforming the civil service in the state and to also intimate her of the existence of the body.
Mrs. Uwejeyan, who underscored the importance of taxation as a veritable instrument for development, said that Dame Okwuofu had performed well in the fight against ghost workers in the civil service, adding that revenue generation plays a critical role in driving the economy of any society.
