Meet Abraka’s First Female Barber! University Graduate Takes To Barbing For Survival

An indigene of Ughelli North Local Government Area in Delta State, Mrs. Faith Abotu, has made history in Abraka, being the first female barber in the university town.
Mrs. Abotu, a mother of four, in her late 30s, said that after 12 years of a futile search for a white collar job, she opted for the choice of becoming a barber despite the fact that barbing is generally considered an exclusive job for males.

At the time this reporter called at the barbershop where she gets trained in Abraka, Ovila Barbing Salon, she was seen attending to customers who came to get their hair cut.
Abotu is an NCE holder from College of Education, Warri and also a 2009 graduate of Delta State University, Abraka, from the Department of Economics Education.
According to her, she veered into the men’s beauty business after she got tired of depending solely on her husband for her daily upkeep.
She disclosed that at first her husband opposed this move, but now is a happy man, since she saves him the money he spends on the haircut of their children because she does it herself.

She hopes that in the near future, she would be able to open her own barbing salon, as she called on well-meaning Nigerians to make this dream come true.
Abotu called on unemployed youths in the country to get a skill to make ends meet, rather than remain idle.
