Headmasters’ Cup: Akuarajor Defeats Ojomba, Cinches Warri North Slot

Akuarajor Primary School, Koko, has emerged the team to represent Warri North Local Government Area at the zonal level of the Delta State Headmasters’Cup championship, after defeating Ojomba Primary School team in a penalty shoot out.
The match which was highly contested, was played yesterday at the Ojomba Primary School field, and kicked off at about 10:46 am, which saw Ojomba team scoring its first goal during the first half of the game while Akuarajor team equalised by scoring few minutes into the second half of the game.
Speaking on the the success of the tournament at the local government level, an official from the State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, who is in charge of match fixtures in the local government, Mr Victor Onogholo, stated that the competition which is for under 12, was geared towards identifying and harnessing young talents.
He revealed that eight schools drawn from both government and private, in the LGA, keenly contested the tournament, saying the winner of the championship in the state, would represent the state in this year’s Channels Cup competition for primary schools.
He however lamented the inability of schools in the riverine areas to participate in the competition, adding that, it was due to time and financial constraints, noting however that in subsequent competitions, logistics would be properly made to ensure their participation.
On his part, the Warri North football coach, Mr Hendrix Kpenosen, who was pleased with the virility of the players of the two teams noted that he was optimistic that the Warri North team would emerge strong at the Zonals, adding that training for it had resumed at Iwere College, Koko.
