UPU Youth Wing: Defend Urhobo Interest, Omene Charges New Executive
By Daniel Dafe
The President General, Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), Worldwide, Chief Joe Omene, has called on the newly sworn-in executive members of the body’s youth wing (UPU I’ghele r’ Urhobo), led by Comrade Louis Anidi to defend Urhobo interest, as 2019 general election approaches.
Chief Omene who spoke to Oasis Magazine (OM) during an exclusive chat after the peaceful handover by the Ovie Igho-led executive, also charged the new executive to promote Urhobo cause at all times.
Speaking further, he said: “The youths are the warlords in any ethnic group. If Urhobo is about to be trampled on, I expect the youths to stand up and prevent such.
“They are to monitor the activities of Urhobo politicians that want to sell Urhobo. The parent body will sanction anyone that works against Urhobo interest, and expects the youth wing to resist any of such attempts to run down the Urhobo Nation.
“The new executive said during the programme that they will rubbish any politician that has intention to rubbish the Urhobo Nation; however they are not permitted to take the life of anyone.”
He continued: “You can see the crowd of persons that came for the ceremony and the fleet of cars. That tells you that those that came for the event today are not hungry Urhobo people. These are not part of the ‘come and buy’ kind of youths around.”
