DELSU Matriculates 4,513 Students For 2018/2019 Academic Session

The matriculation ceremony of Delta State University, Abraka, for newly admitted students into the institution for the 2018/2019 academic session has succesfully held.

The ceremony which held today, 12th  January, 2019,  at the university’s Convocation Arena, had a total of 4, 513 matriculating out of the 22, 245 candidates that applied for admission into the university.

Speaking during the programme, the Vice Chancellor of the university, Professor Victor Peretomode, congratulated the matriculating students for attaining another important mile stone in their academic pursuit.

According to him, DELSU “has grown from a modest beginning to a highly rated citadel of research and high learning.

“It has distinguished itself as one of the centres of academic excellence and has become an attraction for candidates seeking admission into tertiary institutions.”

This, he said, has been largely due to the school’s track record of maintaining a smooth and uninterrupted academic calendar over the years, particularly under his administration.

Continuing, he hinted that the National Universities Commission (NUC) in conjunction with JAMB has increased the university carrying capacity from 5333 to 5633.

Speaking further, he disclosed that the institution has attained 95 percent accreditation status for all her undergraduate programmes.

He called on the students to be diligent in their academic work and be honest in the pursuit of their dreams, adding that they must avoid been captives of the social media.

Peretomode noted that the university “takes serious exception to issues that border on indiscipline and lawlessness particularly when such actions involve violence, cultism, internet fraud, examination malpractice, indecent dressing and the likes.

He thus urged them to shun all forms of vices that can jeopardize the completion of their studies, as he promiseded that the management will continue to wage war against nefarious activities of secret cults on the campus.

High point of the ceremony was the administration of the matriculation oath by the Registrar, Mr. Dan Urhibo, on the newly admoadmi students.
