The Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka Chapter of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), has decried the delay in the payment of the minimum wage by the Delta State Government.
The association expressed their grievances on the said matter during an emergency congress that held at the Science Auditorium in Site II of the institution yesterday.
According to the Chairman, Comrade Monday Izu, other sectors have been paid in January and even paid November arrears with the promise to be paid December arrears in February.
He added: “We understand DELSU has a peculiar mode of payment but we cannot continue to tolerate the accumulation of arrears with regard to minimum wage.”
Izu who had earlier expressed displeasure over the past administration led by Professor Victor Peretomode for the inconsiderate transfer of staff, was thankful to the new VC, Prof. Andy Egwunyenga for correcting the anomalies within the short period he took over.
Speaking further, the SSANU Chairman eulogized the new VC, describing him as a man of peace.
He added: “In appreciation of the new VC’s conduct, we will come out en masse to celebrate with him during his Thanksgiving on Sunday, 23rd of February, 2023.
He noted that Prof. Egwunyenga deserves to be celebrated, especially as all arrears denied the staff by the past administration has been paid by him after he resumed office.
