Delta: PCRC Inaugurates New Executive Members, Patrons

The Chairman of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Delta State Command, Chief (Amb.) Odet Emo (JP), has passed on the baton of leadership to Amb. Marshal Prosper Ojoh, who will alongside nine others, pilot the affairs of the group.
The inauguration of the new executive held today, February 27, 2020 at the Hall of Celebration, Asaba.
The Governor of Delta State, Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa represented by Chief Barr. Edwin Uzor, Special Adviser to the Governor on Peace Building and Conflict Resolution and the Commissioner of Police, Delta State, CP Hafiz Inuwa represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Administration and Finance, DCP Josephine Anyasinti, were present at the auspicious occasion.
Other dignitaries that graced the ceremony include: State Co-ordinator, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Delta State Sector Command, Engr. Dickson Amromawha and Chief (Mrs.) Nkem Okwuofu.
Speaking during the programme, Barr. Edwin Uzor, said the Governor is committed to the peace and security of the state.
He added: “Security systems in the country are facing a big challenge and all hands must be on deck to ensure a free and peaceful society,” noting that the issue of community policing has become topical today.
He continued: “The modern policing strategy allows the police to proactively act beyond mere crime fighting, but to partner with community members in setting the security priorities in the society and fashioning ways to resolving identified problems in the community.”
According to him, PCRC bridges the gap between the police and the citizens.
Earlier, Chief Emo, Chairman, PCRC Zone 5, covering Bayelsa, Delta and Edo States and also the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Police Relations, said that she has been a member of PCRC for 26 years with several commendable achievements to her credits that has continually put her in the hearts of many in the state.
Her words: “Before I came on board, the body was disorganized. But today, we have elected officers in the 54 divisions in the state.
Emo expressed confidence in the new leadership and was optimistic that they will not disappoint her and others looking up to them.
On his part, the police boss in the state urged the new executive to strengthen the cordiality that already exists between the police and communities in the state.
In his acceptance speech, Ojoh, while commending the outgoing chairman over a job well done while she was in office, said that “a new dawn has set,” adding that they will build on the foundation already laid.
Speaking further, he said: “We shall endeavour to expand on the scope of partnerships that already exist, rigorously engage the office of the Commissioner of Police for needs assessment and build symbiotic relationship with the community for better police service delivery.”
He appealed to the Governor to kindly look into areas of empowering the PCRC, saying that since 1984 till date, no government in the state has supported the PCRC financially.
“We uphold the mandate given to us today as a sacred trust and promise that as PCRC, we shall work with all relevant stakeholders to mobilize the citizenry to work for a more peaceful Delta State,” he said.
Other members of the State Executive are Comrade Oliver Eyefia, Vice Chairman; Insp. Edna Bassey, Secretary; Comr. Efeoghene Nzabu, Assistant Secretary; Mrs. Esther Okoh, Treasurer; Olorogun E. Egbuduku, Financial Secretary; Sir Jude Okoh, Public Relations Officer; Christopher Otumu, Auditor; Chief D. Ozegbe, Provost and Agoda Save, Welfare Officer.
Twenty persons were also inaugurated as patrons of the group in the state.
Meanwhile, during the occasion Sen. (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa was endorsed as the Life Patron of the body.
