UPU Youth Wing: Agagbo Rejects Secretary General Position
By Daniel Dafe
The choice for the position of Secretary General of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU) Youth Wing, Worldwide, Comr. Andrew Agagbo by the parent body led by Chief (Engr.) Joe Omene has said that he is not interested in the appointment and will not serve in this capacity.
Agagbo served in the Louis Anidi-led executive as Publicity Secretary.
You will recall that Comrade Igho, a former President of the youth body was mandated by the UPU executive to reorganize the youth wing of the UPU after the Louis Anidi executive was removed by the UPU.
Speaking to Oasis Magazine (OM) during a telephone chat, Agagbo said that his decision was hinged on several happenings that led to the suspension of the Louis Anidi-led executive and afterwards his expulsion over the scuffle between him (Anidi) and Umukoro (Secretary General) , adding that he cannot serve under Umukoro.
You will recall that in a previous publication on this medium, a press statement signed by Chef Joe Omene, President General of UPU, Worldwide, had picked Agagbo to serve as the Secretary alongside Comrade Efemena Umukoro.
Furthermore, Agagbo urged the President General of UPU and other members of the executive not to see this as a rebellious decision, but understand that the pending issues are yet to be resolved, saying that he does not see how the present youth leaders will bring about the needed leadership ideas to move Urhobo Nation forward.
According to him, his decision is a product of a thorough interface with stakeholders from Uvwie Kingdom where he hails from.
“I am answerable to my leaders and I use this medium to state clearly that I am not interested in the offer to serve in the capacity I was picked for by the Omene-led executive,” he added.
He continued: “While I believe this rejection does not prevent me from carrying out other functions aside this for Urhobo Nation, I urge all stakeholders in Urhobo Nation to look beyond my decision and take note of the why to this decision of mine.
“I pray for the progress of Urhobo Nation and will always do my best to fly her flag high.”
Attempts to speak to Comrade Umukoro to get his reaction proved abortive as he did not pick or return calls put to his mobile phone.
