Insecurity: UPU Youthwing President Commends Gov Okowa Over Creation Of ‘Delta Hawk’

National President of Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), Youthwing, Worldwide,Comrade Efemena Umukoro, has commended the Governor Ifeanyi Okowa administration over the establishment of the state’s security outfit, ‘Operation Delta Hawk’.

Umukoro responding to questions from journalists recently, described Operation Delta Hawk as a bold step in checking insecurity, saying that it was a very timely move to tackle insecurity in the area.

While calling on all Deltans to support the initiative, he promised to mobilise Urhobo youths in contributing their own quota towards the success of the initiative.

He continued: “Establishing the security outfit is a confirmation of the Governor’s willingness to entrench community policing which is in sync with good governance and quality service delivery to the people, noting that security of life and property is at the core of good governance.

He said: “This is a welcome development and all hands must be on deck to make it succeed so that cultism, kidnaping, robbery and Fulani Herdsmen and farmers clash can be a thing of the past.”

Recall that this was part of decisions the South-South Governors’ Forum, in its last meeting in Asaba, agreed to.

“Without protection of lives and properties, there is nothing like good governance. We had witnessed serious security threats recently. Lives and properties have been lost and are being lost virtually every other day. We all have to support this proposal for the general good,” he averred.

According to him, in the best interest of the programme, dedicated and patriotic youths should be involved in the security outfit to prevent a case of people with questionable character acting as moles in the arrangement.

Continuing, he appealed to the Delta State House of Assembly to quickly work out a legal framework to give backing to the security outfit and thus make it legal.

Furthermore, he praised the efforts of the police in the state, saying that they are doing much to tackle the security challenges in the oil-rich state.
