DELSU: Criminology And Security Studies Unit Decorates Agents, As VC Commends Their Resilience

DELSU Vice Chancellor’s representative and DVC (Admin), Professor Edmund Atakpo, decorating one of the Agents.

Criminology and Security Studies Unit of the Department of Sociology, Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, has held an official ceremony to decorate security agents admitted into 2025/2026 Session.

Speaking during the ceremony which held recently at the University’s Convocation Arena, Site III, DELSU Vice Chancellor, Professor Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba, commended the preparedness of the agents who appeared very motivated for their assignments. Represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Edmund Atakpo, Professor Asagba, also informed the agents that the University would soon officially engage their services to complement the other security outfits on campus. He charged the agents to continue to do all within their power to maintain their dedication to the job. Professor Asagba thereafter formally declared the event opened.

Earlier in his welcome address, Coordinator of the Department of Sociology, Dr Prosper Irogho, welcomed all guests to the decoration ceremony. Dr Irogho, also expressed his appreciation to DELSU Vice Chancellor, Professor Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba, for his constant support to the Department. He further praised the Vice Chancelor for seeing opportunities where others see limitations which has led to the establishment and successful running of this and other innovative programmes. The Coordinator concluded that the programme would produce future security experts, researchers, policy makers and law enforcement agents.

Highlights of the ceremony were the decoration of 40 security agents by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba, parade drills by the agents and photo session.

Dignitaries present at the decoration ceremony included DELSU Vice Chancellor, Professor Samuel Ogheneovo Asagba, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Professor Edmund Atakpo, Dean of Faculty of the Social Sciences (FSS), Professor Sam Ogege, Coordinator of the Centre for Open and Distance Learning (CODEL), Dr (Mrs) Deliverance Brotobor, Director of Gender and Development Studies, Dr (Mrs) Enoh Olele, former Director of Centre for Continuous Education Programme and Head of Economics Department, Professor Callistar Obi, Head of Psychology Department, Dr Chiyem Nwanzu, Criminology and Security Studies Unit Coordinator, Dr Sylvester Osugba, immediate past Head of Sociology Department, Dr Sandra Ikenyei, Faculty Officer of FSS, Mr Emmanuel Adogbeji, Professors, staff, students and others.
