Chief Jessa Calls For More Participation Of Youths In Nigerian Politics
By Daniel Dafe
A leading chairmanship aspirant of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP in Ethiope East Local Government Council, Delta State, Chief (Amb) Harrison Oghenebrorie Jessa, has said that “it is high time young men and women are given more opportunities in the country to contest for political positions since they are the vibrant sections of any economy that are filled with development ideas.”
Chief Jessa said this during a consultation visit to party members in Ward 2, Abraka.
Continuing, he said: “If I am elected as the Council Chairman, more youths would be encouraged to join politics,” as he urged youths to endeavour to vie for political offices as they consider necessary without entertaining any form of fear.
Chief Jessa however, disclosed that, despite not vying for any political office before now, through his foundation, several persons have been trained and empowered with scholarships and starterpacks.
He also mentioned that women have been given soft loans to boost their businesses.
Speaking further, he said: “When this opportunity came, I consulted widely before I decide to publicly declare my interest to contest for the chairmanship position. It was unanimously agreed that it is high time an energetic young man who has the interest of the people at heart contest for this position. “I am using this opportunity to appeal to my leaders, with all humility, to allow me run this time around. I am asking for this because the desire to serve my people is burning inside my bone marrows.”
Chief Jessa also assured that he is going to serve the people to the best of his knowledge and ability through an open door policy, adding that inspite of paucity of funds in the council, he is going to make sure that he performs creditably well if given a chance.
According to him, he has a SMART Agenda for the good people of Ethiope East in synergy with that of Sen (Dr) Arthur Ifeanyi Okowa’s government.
He disclosed that his manifesto is hinged on:
S = Sound Education
M= Maximum Peace and Security
A= Adequate Job Opportunity for All
R= Rapid Infrastructural Development
T= Transformed Healthcare.
He called on all in the local government interested in moving the council forward to support his political ambition.
