Ethiope East Council Chair Says Abraka Has Recorded A COVID-19 Case

The Chairman of Ethiope East Local Government Area in Delta State, Chief Faith Majemite, has said that Abraka has recorded a COVID-19 case, adding that the said patient will be moved from the holding centre in Eku to any of the four treatment centers in the state today.
Majemite, who said this during a phone conversation with Oasis Magazine (OM), declined revealing the treatment center the patient will be taken to, as she added that the result of a suspected case was awaited, saying that the said individual is presently at the holding center in Eku.
She added: “One has tested positive; the other is in the isolation centre. Both of them brought this thing from other places. That is if the other person tests positive too.
“When I said people should stay at home they think I am wicked. The one that has tested positive now came from Anambra and is a youth corper serving there. He came from Anambra and after some days he got the symptoms went to the hospital and has been confirmed positive. This morning, they are taking him to the treatment centre.
“Also, there is a second case but we are expecting his result to know if he has the disease or not. He is a student of Delta State University, Abraka. He went to see his brother in Sapele from Benin that later tested positive and now he (DELSU student) is having symptoms.”
She called on residents to mind where they go to, stressing that they must stay at home and stay safe.
Continuing, she disclosed that they have started contact tracing to be able to quarantine all those that may have come in contact with the confirmed case.
Speaking further, she revealed that she felt bad when she heard the news of the confirmed case because she worked very hard to ensure that the disease does not enter the area.
Furthermore, she said: “People must stay at home and follow all the guidelines to prevent the disease. This is not the time to receive visitors. People in the local government should tell their relatives to stay where they are. This is not the time for people to travel in. Everyone must also use their facemask.”
Meanwhile, a source at the hospital under conditions of anonymity, said that he is aware of a suspected case and that they were yet to receive the results from NDDC.
“I am not aware of a positive case,” he added.
He said that the hospital was not permitted to speak on the development and that we are to contact NCDC to get questions to any answers we may have on the issue.
