Buhari: My Administration Remains Committed To The Rapid, Sustainable Development Of The Niger Delta
-Urges NASS, Auditing Firms To Speed Up Investigations Of NDDC, Others
By Daniel Dafe
President Muhammadu Buhari has assured the people of the Niger Delta of his administration’s commitment to the rapid, even and sustainable development of the region.
President Buhari who gave this assurance in a tweet, added: “I am determined to get to the root of the problem undermining the development of the Niger Delta, in spite of the enormous national resources dedicated to this annually.”
He continued: “In line with this, I have made it clear to the National Assembly and our investigating and law enforcement agencies to pursue better coordination in their work, so that the shared goal of ensuring sanity, transparency and accountability of dedicated funds can be achieved.
“All investigating agencies and auditing firms currently working collaboratively with National Assembly Committees to audit and reposition the NDDC must act with urgency and a sense of purpose, and ensure that I am kept informed of any and all actions being taken.
“Our determination to entrench transparency and accountability applies not only to the NDDC, but also to all other institutions of the Federal Government.”
The said tweet by the President may be the needed message from the presidency to calm the storm, as the Ministry of the Niger Delta under, Godswill Akpabio and the NDDC have been on a war path with the National Assembly that has insisted on probing the activities of the NDDC.
However, some have alleged that this move by the lawmakers is sponsored by some persons that are determined to hinder the forensic audit of the NDDC since the outcome may be unfavourable to some key players in the region.
