-Says The Church Should Not Be Mistaken For A Club, Company
By Daniel Dafe
The Founder of the Living Faith Church, popularly known as Winners Chapel, Bishop David Oyedepo, has warned the Buhari government to exclude churches to be part of the newly amended Company and Allied Matters Act (CAMA) Law arrangement, saying that the “church is neither a club, neither should it be mistaken for a company.”

Bishop Oyedepo spoke earlier today during the church’s Sunday service monitored by this medium.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari recently assented to CAMA passed by the National Assembly.

The Act now makes it compulsory for the disclosure of persons with significant control of companies in a register of beneficial owners to enhance corporate accountability and transparency; unlike the hitherto situations where promoters were unknown.

The President’s assent on the legislation, repealed and replaced the extant Companies and Allied Matters Act, 1990, after 30 years, introducing several corporate legal innovations geared toward enhancing ease of doing business in the country.

But in a swift reaction, the cleric said: “Don’t try it. Nigeria is going too far. Not When I am still alive. That a Minister can remove a Trustee and close the accounts of the Church? To appoint Board of Trustees! You’ll appoint an occultist to be Manager of church affairs? When this crude prophet is alive? When all the sons of the Prophet are alive?

“May I say this sir, the Church is not a club and should not be mistaken for a company.”

He added: “The Church is God’s only heritage on earth. You tamper with somebody’s inheritance; you will see something. The church is the bride and body of Christ.

“This country is going too far and it’s a risk. I saw something on CAMA (Company Allied Matters Act) and they put religious bodies there that Registrar-General can remove Trustees without a recourse to the court. Don’t try it!

“It must be somebody dreaming somewhere who woke up on the wrong side of the bed that crafed that thing into the middle of it as their custom is.

“I’m 51 years young in this thing, I’ve been with Jesus for some time and I’m sent as a Prophet to the nations; don’t try it. That a Minister can remove a Trustee and close the accounts of the Church; when the history of this time will be written, many will be ashamed to be Nigerians except the Church.”

According to him, “it is wisdom to quickly expunge religious bodies from that document. It is only safe to remove. Where the Registrar General is superior to the court including the Supreme Court!

“Where a supervising Minister can wake up in the morning and say, why are they going to Church early in the morning, they can’t go to Church anymore?”

“Can you appoint Board of Trustees? In fact, they said, they will appoint manager, so you appoint an Occultist to be Manager of Church Affairs, when we are alive? When this crude prophet is alive? When all the sons of the Prophet are alive?”

Speaking further, he said: “I am waiting for that day when anyone will appoint a Trustee over this church. You cannot threaten anybody. We own this country together.

“You know where the jealousy is coming from? It’s the prosperity of the church and it is just the beginning.

“This move is a sinister deamonic attempt to stiffle the church. The church is one of the greatest assets of the nation. The bad news is that this law will never work.”

Oyedepo vehemently prayed for God’s judgement upon those behind the move,
