Delta: Onyeme Urges Private Schools, Hotels To Take Advantage Of Tax Palliatives
The Delta State Internal Revenue Service has reiterated its intention to ensure the COVID-19 palliative measures approved for certain categories of tax payers in the state are fully implemented in line with government’s desire to cushion the adverse economic effects of the pandemic on businesses in the state.
Speaking on Wednesday in Warri, the Chairman of the State Internal Revenue Service Sir Monday Onyeme, recalled that private primary and secondary schools, eateries, hotels and hospitals across the state had been granted waivers on interests and penalties on established tax audit liabilities emanating from tax audit exercises carried out by the Revenue Service from 2011 to 2019.
This he said was done in recognition of the challenges being faced by private primary and secondary schools, eateries, hotels and hospitals as a result of the corona virus pandemic.

He added that this category of tax payers were also granted the opportunity of paying the assessed liabilities, less the interests and penalties, in installments, provided they paid up by September 30, 2020.
It would be recalled that the revenue service had earlier approved a grace period of three months for the filing of Annual Tax Returns for the year 2020 from the initial deadline of March 2020 to June 30, 2020 as part of the state government’s determination to ease the burden of outstanding tax liabilities, particularly in this COVID-19 era.
