Delta: ‘Yahoo Boy’ Crushes ‘Okada Rider’ To Death

The rider of a commercial motorcycle (popularly called okada in Sapele, Delta State, was today crushed to death by a speeding vehicle suspected to be driven by an internet fraudster (Yahoo Boy).
According to sources, apart from the said rider in his late 30s who died on the spot, his passenger, a woman sustained life threatening injuries and was rushed to the hospital.
The accident, we learnt occurred around Oton area in the said community.
It was gathered that the accident occurred around 8am on Monday by the popular New Farm area in the Sapele metropolis.

The vehicle, a Mercedes-Benz GLK was not numbered.

Sources said that the driver purchased the GLK last week and was yet to be given a plate number.
Eyewitnesses said they feared if the woman would survive as the injuries sustained were severe..
Residents disclosed that the Okada man had picked the woman from Gana market area before the speeding GLK driver crushed them from behind.

“The accident happened right in my presence. The driver of the GLK was on speed and he crushed the okada man and the passenger he was carrying to farm from behind.

“The Okada man died on the spot while the GLK driver rushed the seriously injured passenger to hospital. We thought both occupants of the motorcycle were dead. I doubt if the woman would make it except by the grace of God”, one of the residents told journalists.

An official of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Sapele who confirmed the incident, said their operatives had recovered the car and the damaged motorcycle from the scene of the accident.

The FRSC official, who spoke on condition of anonymity as he was not authorized to speak with the press, added that officials of the commission also evacuated the remains of the late Okoda rider to the Sapele Central Hospital morgue.

So far, at least 10 persons have died in accidents resulting from reckless driving by suspected Yahoo Boys in Sapele.
