IGP Orders Full Scale Investigation Into Arrest, Detention, Assault Of 5 Journalists In Delta

The Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mohammed Adamu, has directed a full scale investigation into the arrest, detention and assault of five journalists by police officers in Delta State at the behest of the National Human Rights Commission.

Recall that the incidence occurred four months, six days ago in Warri, Delta State.

Five journalists were arrested, detained and assaulted by men of Federal SARS/IGP squad.

The journalists, Mr. Mathew Omonigho (Daily Post), Mr. Edeki Igafe (NAN Correspondent), Mr. Francis Sadhere (Business Day Correspondent), Mr. Onyekachukwu Meluwa (Punch Newspaper Correspondent) and Mr. Christopher Odamah (a freelancer) were all arrested by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS IGP and taken to the Warri Police Area Command in lieu of their colleague, Mr. Cletus Opukeme who they accused of being used to sponsor media attacks against the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.

CENTREP had petitioned the National Human Rights Commission over the matter.
