Ohanaeze Ndigbo: Why We’re Backing IPOB’s Sit-At-Home Order

Apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo says it is backing a sit-at-home order issued by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) for Ndigbo in the South-East geopolitical zone.

IPOB declared the sit-at-home to hold on October 1 supposedly to stop “wild killing” in the region.

The group said it got credible intelligence stating that terrorist groups planned to attack the people of the region, who would intend to celebrate the Independence Day.

In a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary on Wednesday, the group said “a complete and total lockdown of Biafraland and other terror-ravaged areas of the Middle Belt on the 1st of October 2020 was sacrosanct, irreversible, and non-negotiable”.

Speaking on the order, Ohanaeze’s National Publicity Secretary, Barrister Uche Achi Okpaga, explained that there was nothing wrong for people to sit at home provided they were not violating the laws of the land.

“If IPOB said so, we are supporting it. They are our children. We are supporting it since it is not against the law and so far as it is not a violent act. it is obtainable anywhere in the world. So, we are totally in support of it,” Vanguard quoted Okpaga to have said.
