DELSU VC Urges Deltans To Embrace Fish Farming

Deltans, especially youths have been charged to channel their energies into agricultural production in order to contribute and add value in the economic growth of the state.

The charge was given by the Vice Chancellor, Delta State University, Professor Andy Egunpenga recently when he visited the United Livestock Farmers Association in Anwai campus, Asaba during an inspection visit to the place.

Professor Egwuyanga, who was conducted round the various poultry farms in the campus, applauded the group for their hard work, considering the fact that these days people sit and expect government to do everything for them.

He however called on youths and private individuals to join hands and contribute their quota in the agricultural sector of the economy, adding that if all hands invest in the agricultural sector, there would be enough food for both Deltans and the nation in general.

Professor Egwunyenga further advised the group to access loans to be able to boost their production.

Also speaking, the Director General, Okowa Campaign Flow, Mr Bemigho Ofonyenor, who is also the chairman of the group, commended the management of DELSU for identifying with the group and for their cooperation since they established the farm settlement in the campus.

He said that the project started in March 2020 as a result of the trespassers and Fulani herdmen menace, adding that they have been able to get different poultry products to include birds of different types, layers and boilers, turkey, rabbits, grass cutters, pigs and so many other life stock products.

Mr Bemigho, an engineer, pleaded with the state government and other stakeholders in the agricultural sector to join hands and partner with them for increased food production in Delta State and the nation at large.

He stressed that with such gesture, it would not only reduce unemployment but also boost food production and even make Delta State a major food basket of the nation.

The Chairman United Livestock Association said that soon students would be invited to the farm settlement for excursion and training.
