IGP Vows To Hold AIGs, CPs Responsible For Misbehaviour By SARS

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Adamu says the Commissioner of Police in charge of FSARS, Commissioners of Police in charge of State Commands and the FCT as well as their supervisory Zonal Assistant Inspectors General of Police will be held liable for any misconduct within their Area of Responsibility (AOR).

This was contained in a Sunday statement signed by thee Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Frank Mba on behalf of the IGP.

According to the statement, the IGP also banned the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), formerly SARS, and other tactical squads of the police from carrying out routine patrols and other conventional low-risk duties – stop and search duties, checkpoints, mounting of roadblocks, traffic checks, etc – with immediate effect.

Furthermore, the IGP said no personnel of the force was authorised to embark on patrols or tactical assignments in mufti.

The police boss further said that the ban applied to all the tactical squads operating at the Federal, Zonal and Command levels, noting that the CPs and AIGs were therefore charged to ensure effective supervision and mentoring of the personnel of the Tactical Squads under their jurisdiction.
