We Will Take The Issue Of Sanitation Very Seriously In Ethiope East, Says Council Boss

By Daniel Dafe
Chairman, Ethiope East Local Government Area, Delta State, Hon. (Pharm.) Victor Ofobrukueta, has said that his administration will take very seriously the monthly sanitation exercise, adding that the issue of a clean environment is one of his priorities.
The council chairman, who spoke exclusively to Oasis Magazine (OM) in Abraka during the monthly sanitation exercise, said he moved down the whole environment department including the political class to evacuate one of the illegal dump sites in the area.
He added: ”Why the local government exists as the governor of the state, His Excellency Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has told us is that environmental sanitation and security should be the hallmark of what we do as local government areas.
”What we are doing here today is to send a message to everyone in the council area that we want a clean Ethiope East. We are here today in this particular area in Abraka called NUT Road and we discovered that for a long period the people of this environ turned the road to a dump site and it is constituting a health hazard to the residents,” adding that they were fully on ground to evacuate it.
”We are here to remind the people that cleanliness is next to godliness.”
Speaking further, he warned residents in the said area to desist from dumping refuse at the spot they evacuated.
On his assessment of the level of participation of residents in Ethiope East in the sanitation exercise, he said: ”It is impressive. I saw many of the youths come out in their numbers to take care of their streets and environs. Particularly, I was in Eku and I saw the youths come out to clean their environment. We want them to continue to do that.”
