2023: PDP Guber Aspirant Calls On Okowa To Observe, Not Be Involved In Choosing His Successor

Foremost aspirant in the Delta governorship race to take over from Senator (Dr.) Ifeanyi Okowa, Evangelist (Dr.) Austin Akpo Ofomona, has advised the governor of the state to do more of observation, stand aloof rather than be a principal actor in who determines who emerges as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2023 elections.

Ofomana, who made these remarks in Abraka on Sunday, added that “the governor should not be conspicuously seen determining who emerges as the party’s candidate.”

“He is the leader of the party in the state and must step back, sit down as a father and allow everyone go to the field. My sincere advice as an experienced politician is that democratic tenets should be observed in picking our party’s candidate, which will lead to peace,” he said.

“The governor must mind what he says in the interest of our party,’ adding that he remains a supporter of the rotation of the governorship position amongst the senatorial, not ethnic groups and noted that it is Delta central’s turn.

Furthermore, he expressed optimism that he is the rightful candidate for the job and will be picked by his party and Deltans to pilot the affairs of the state.

Continuing, he said people must desist from causing fracas between Chief James Ibori and Okowa.

He added: “It is too early for the conflicts we are already seeing. I saw a publication somewhere were a group said there is already an anointed candidate and that aspirants should not waste their money.”

“No leader has decided who will emerge. At the right time, the leaders of the party will seat and take a decision,” he averred.
