Police Arrest Serial Kidnapper In Abraka, Recover 2 Ak-47 Riffles, 114 Live Ammunition, Others

The Delta State Police Command, has arrested a 30-year-old suspected serial kidnapper, identified as Akpos James A.K.A general.

James, who hails from Ekeremor LGA, Bayelsa State, was arrested in Abraka on the 24th of April, 2021.

A statement by the Acting Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Edafe Bright, said that the suspect was nabbed after the Special Anti Kidnapping and Cyber Crime Squad (SAKCCS) operatives, acted on available intelligence.

The police said the suspect has been fingered in the killing of policemen at an eatery in Ughelli on the 10th of January, 2021, adding that he also is a member of the gang that carried out several kidnap/armed robbery operations within Abraka, Warri, Ughelli and Sapele environs.

Upon interrogation, the suspect who gave useful information in connection to the crimes led SAKCCS operatives to the gang’s hideout at Bomadi waterside on Friday.

According to the statement, other members of his gang were engaged in a gun battle, but owing to the superior fire power of the police, escaped with various degrees of gunshot injuries into the river.

Two Ak47 rifles, one hundred and fourteen rounds of 7.62 ammunition with six magazines were recovered during the raid.

Manhunt for the fleeing members of the gang is ongoing.

Meanwhile, the police urged members of the public to help the police by giving any useful information that will lead to the arrest of the other fleeing members of the gang, while assuring informants that their identity will be treated with high level of confidentiality.
