Ukwuani Moves To Stop Indiscriminate Grazing In LGA



The Executive Chairman, Ukwuani Local Government, Hon (Barr) C.S Possible Ajede, has disclosed that plans are in top gear to bring lasting solutions to the destructive grazing and menace of herders across the local government area.

The Chairman made this disclosure upon the confirmations of all the allegations levelled against the herders/cattle rearers by Nikitta and Musa Mustapha representatives of the cattle traders and rearers that; some herders inside the bush are actually engaging in the uprooting of farmers’ cassava and other crops to feed their cattles to eat, destruction of farmlands, raping, kidnapping and maiming of farmers across the LGA but that those herders are not under their control.

The Chief Security Officer of the LGA while lamenting the fear instilled on farmers across the LGA and the destruction of their crops by the herders, added that the council is working out plans to possibly relocate the cattle traders from Landforce to Obiaruku Community to do their business in town and not in an isolated location.

The Chairman also noted that, he has appealed severally to the leadership of the herders/cattle traders led by Nikitta in the LGA to ensure that their boys are under checks and control, but they have continued to do otherwise and giving frivolous excuses over the mindless acts of their boys.

According to him, “immediately I resumed office as the Chairman of the council, I met with you and I gave you people simple but strict orders – ‘don’t move your cattles around town and stop indiscriminate grazing’; the reason was that, our people are afraid of the untold things these herders have done and when they see you around their farms, you create undue fear in them.” he stated.

“I told you people to keep your cattles in a particular place/location and care for them there but no, you would not listen, instead, you even go as far as flaunting the visible ‘NO GRAZING’ order of the Ebu of Umuebu, HRM (Amb) Donald Ekeruche on his subjects farmlands; your cattles have been causing lots of unrest in this LGA and other parts of the state and you know it”, he said.

Barr Ajede warned the herders representatives to call their people to order so as to allow everybody go about their lawful endeavors without fear of harassment and assault anywhere in the LGA.
