2023: Okowa Is A Major Deciding Factor On Who Becomes Governor – EAC Oghenesivbe
…Says Delta Central Will Wholesomely Support Delta South In 2031
A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, has said that Delta Central Senatorial District of the party, did not go against power rotation in 2015, contrary to insinuations by some politicians in the state.
Oghenesivbe made the assertion in a live Radio programme monitored in Asaba on Tuesday, saying that it was certain overambitious individuals within the party that worked against the much cherished informal arrangement, and suggested that power rotation arrangement should be protected via some rules and sanctions that will bind registered members of PDP, in the state, going forward.
The renowned political communication strategist further posited that power rotation guarantees equity, peaceful coexistence and also provides the opportunity for majority and minority groups to govern the state based on senatorial rotation basis, adding that Delta Central Senatorial District is next in line to produce the candidate that will fly PDP gubernatorial flag in 2023, and subsequently govern the state for another eight years.

Oghenesivbe, who is also the Executive Assistant to Delta State Governor on Communications, said pragmatic team of leaders within PDP in Delta Central led by Chief Ighoyota Amori, had assured the leaders of PDP Delta South that come 2031, there shall be no aspirant of the party from Central to challenge the Delta South Governorship ticket of PDP.
“What happened in 2015 within the PDP family was very unfortunate. Governor Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, won the primaries by divine intervention, which ought not to be, if the informal power rotation arrangement was reasonably adhered to.
“However, Delta Central structure of PDP never went against rotation in 2015, rather it was certain overambitious individuals who masterminded the idea, and frankly speaking, it almost dashed the hope of Delta North. It was a fierce contest won by Okowa, through God’s mercy.
“It must also be stated that PDP structures in Delta Central stood by Delta North, as can be seen from the massive support given by members of Delta Central chapter of Delta Political Vanguard, DPV, within PDP family, influenced by notable politicians like Rt Hon Festus Ovie Agas, Chief Mrs Mary Iyasere Esq, to mention a few.
“And it is my considered opinion that it will be wrong for any person or group of persons to say that Delta Central was against power rotation in 2015. A critical analysis of political events revealed that the blame should be heaped at the doorsteps of those individuals whose self centered political interests and activities almost ruined the chances of Delta North from ascending to power and governance of the state in 2015.
“The time is now for leaders of our great party in the state, to put the events of 2015 behind us, come to a round table and set the rules and sanctions that will protect the power rotation arrangement.
“And violators of the rotation arrangement within PDP should subsequently be made to pay dearly for their sins, through party internal disciplinary measures relating to the arrangement, going forward,” Oghenesivbe added.
