31-Year-Old Graduate Of DELSU Alleges Mistake In Result, Threatens Suicide

A 31-year-old graduate of Sociology from the Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka, Mr. Thaddeus Ifeanyi, has threatened to take his life after frantic efforts made to correct alleged wrong result given to him by the University failed.

The Storyng reports that the ex-student said he had appealed to the then Vice Chancellor of the university to investigate his 400 level result, claiming irregularities in the computation of the result.

In his series of petitions addressed to the State governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, the Vice Chancellor of the University, Mr. Ifeanyi appealed for a thorough investigation of his scripts.

The ex-student who also copied the Commissioner for Higher Education, human rights organizations, SSA to the Governor on Student Affairs and made available to newsmen in Asaba, said he is not convinced that the result issued him by the school authority was correct and therefore demanded for his scripts.

“I strongly believe that I graduated with 2nd Class upper division, but I think that a mistake occurred during the computation of my 400 semester results and I humbly appeal that my examination scripts should be thoroughly investigated to be sure that my score is correctly computed.

“I graduated 2013/2014 academic session with a second Class Lower division. At first, I was not convinced that the result was correct, but all my effects to correct it proved abortive.

“In January 2015, I wrote a protest letter to the deputy Vice Chancillor (Academic) who letter became the Vice Chancellor after two months. I requested for an opportunity to see my 400 level examination scripts on some courses but they refused.

“The University requested for those scripts and sent them for remarking. After the remarking exercise was over, the university failed to communicate me on the outcome of the remarking, instead, the university issued me a warning letter, stating that they have investigated my case but on the contrary nothing meaningful was done as my thirst for clarity was not quenched.

“As I speak now, I am frustrated over the whole issue, nobody wants to listen to me and it is affecting me and I have only been considering the option of committing suicide to end the frustration.”

He lamented that he applied for Master Programme in 2019 at the University of Ibadan, despite scoring 61 when the cut-off was pegged at 40, yet, he was not admitted, saying “When I did my findings later, I was told that they consider Second Class Upper first and again we were meant to have three referees, I only got one person because my department refused to reference me,” he alleged.
